The Laboratory of Speculative Ethnology was created by Elizabeth Chin as a real, fake entity that uses fiction to explore social facts.  Using afro and ethnofuturisms, the Lab works to create futures beyond whiteness. Melding anthropology and design, the Lab remakes anthropological methods, reimagines technologies for racial justice, and engages in performative, collaborative community engagement.  This piece, published in a special issue of e-misférica edited by Gina Ulysse, is a good introduction to the Lab’s point of view.
